Recently I had the pleasure of sitting down with designer Alexis Frey, where I got a behind-the-scenes look at her line, Life/After/Denim.
“JH – How did you get into fashion design?
AF – My first job as a teenager was at my dad’s office in the Empire State Building in Manhattan, answering phones and steaming garments. Over the years in New York I learned from technical designers, merchandisers, and product developers. I also worked retail. After college my mind was set on learning the garment business inside and out. I moved to Hong Kong for two years and spent months in China working for and learning from factory managers, sewers, technicians, and engineers. I’m so grateful.
