Audrey Hepburn’s Oscar-winning film Breakfast At Tiffany’s is being added to the national film registry for it’s significance to American culture. It is being preserved for the enjoyment of future generations as part of the US National Film Registry Achieve.
Breakfast At Tiffany’s is based on Truman Capote’s romantic novella, it stars starlet Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly, the novella’s main character who is a free-spirited good time girl who is possessed by a incurable romantic streak.
The US National Film Registry was establish by the Library of Congress in 1989 under the National Film Preservation Act. The registry features over 600 films which represents “important cultural, artistic and historic achievements in film making.”
After the film is selected for the National Film Registry, the Library of Congress works with film studios to ensure the original copies are kept safe.
Librarian of Congress James Bilington says “These films are selected as works of enduring importance to American Culture. They reflect who we are as a people and as nation.”
