The Alex Theater, Glendale California

Born as a vaudeville theater in 1925, the Alex Theater soon became a first-run film house where the Hollywood Studio’s of the 1920’s and 1930’s would premier their features to the Public.

Designed with an eye towards utilizing the ancient styles of Greece and Egypt, the entry way is laid out as the front of a Greek Temple. The atmospheric decor of the stage is arranged as an ancient Egyptian garden, hosting art copied directly off the walls of tombs in Egypt.

A 100 foot tall Art Deco neon tower with a spiked starburst was added in 1940.

In 1992 renovations to this historical landmark began, today it mainly serves as the venue of choice for many film premiers and cultural events.
